“The La’s meet the The Byrds and The Beach Boys and then they all go out to Starbucks to have breakfast. Beyond that words fail me”.
“these guys are so good I want to kill myself. Seriously — I give up. Just shoot me now”
Influenced by bands like Teenage Fanclub, Band of Horses and The Byrds, these Swedes serve up a sparkling guitar driven melodic pop, rich in harmonies.
Started in 2006 by long time band mates the brothers Johan Grönkvist and Sebastian Grönkvist with Per Nyqvist, inviting their friend Andreas Gustafsson to rehearse some new power pop songs and to have a laugh, the band almost immediately made a name for themselves when releasing their first song - a tribute song for Teenage Fanclub called ”Norman Blake”.
With a really strange and fun Youtube video of ”Norman Blake”, and their straight-forward powerpop debut-EP ”Worship This!” (which contained some obvious Weezer-influences), they got attention on blogs, forums and indie radio stations, got some amazing reviews, and within months the band found themselves on a UK-tour. ”Norman Blake” has now been re-released digitally by Sound Asleep Records.
The follow up Byrds influenced ”Rewinder” made the ”best songs of the year”-list and CD from Swedish music magazine Groove Magazine, and the band had developed a more personal and timeless sound, even more rich in beautiful harmonies.
At the time, the band decided to make a decent debut album. Years passsed as the band focused entirely on writing, recording, and setting up their own music studio - and learn how to use it. Finally, in 2016 their grand debut album ”The Great Northern” is now ready to hit your ears.
